If you are injured or become sick while working, be sure to apply for sickness allowance.
What is sickness allowance?
When an employed person is unable to work due to an illness or injury unrelated to work
A system to support income so that you can focus on treatment

Eligible for application
Due to illness or injury not related to work
For a period of more than 2 weeks (waiting period of 14 days)
When you can't work
However, there must be a history of examination or surgery for the relevant disease or injury, excluding plastic surgery for cosmetic purposes.
Did not work during the period of benefit,
The employer for not receiving compensation;
Requires confirmation of income payment source, etc.
When applying for sickness and sickness allowance, submit a work cessation plan and a certificate of work cessation before payment of sickness and sickness allowance.
For workers at a workplace, please fill out the form provided by the business owner; for labor providers and the self-employed, fill out the form yourself.

Basic qualifications
- Employees living in Jongno-gu, Seoul or Cheonan-si, South Chungcheong Province, or workers at workplaces in the area
- Ages 15 to 65, Korean nationals
employed person
- Employee health insurance subscriber or employment/industrial accident insurance subscriber (subscription period of more than 1 month)
self-employed
- Maintain business registration for 3 months + average monthly sales of 2.01 million won or more for 3 months
However, during the 1st stage pilot project period, sales of more than 2.01 million won for more than 1 month out of 3 months are also recognized.
Support details
Period of absence from work due to illness or injury unrelated to work
(excluding 14-day waiting period)
→ 46,180 won per day, up to 120 days per year
If multiple injuries or illnesses that meet the support requirements occur within 1 year, within 120 days

Those excluded from support
- Persons on leave other than for illness (childcare leave, etc.)
- Recipients of employment insurance unemployment benefits, prenatal and postnatal leave benefits, and childcare leave benefits
- Recipients of industrial accident insurance temporary benefits and injury/disease compensation pension
- Car insurance recipient
- Recipients of livelihood benefits, emergency welfare and livelihood support
- Civil servants, national and public school staff
- People leaving overseas, people with health insurance benefits suspended, etc.
Application procedure

Visit a medical institution

Search and visit medical institutions participating in sickness allowance
(Check on the National Health Insurance Corporation website)
- Fill out the “Advance Questions and Answers” provided by the medical institution
- Doctor consultation and issuance of a “medical certificate for application for sickness allowance”
- Initial medical certificate cost: 15,000 won (full refund when eligibility for sickness allowance is confirmed)
- Issuance of necessary medical records
- (Required) A record of first visit from the institution issuing the medical certificate, and a record of clinical tests or surgeries listed on the medical certificate for application for sickness and sickness allowance.
- (Optional) Admission and discharge record if hospitalized within 1 month
- Notice
- Medical certificates cannot be issued retroactively, so they must be issued immediately after an illness or injury occurs.
- Initial medical certificate issuance is only available for up to 4 weeks. If extension of supply period is required, extended medical certificate is issued (up to 8 weeks).

- (Contents) Preparation of a plan for work interruption and non-payment of compensation during the application period for sickness and sickness allowance
- (Complete) If you are a worker at a workplace, fill it out by the employer, or if you are a labor provider and self-employed person, fill it out by yourself.
- (Form) National Health Insurance Corporation website
- Copy of your own account passbook
- Business activity and sales report, sales proof documents (limited to self-employed people)
- Applicable only to cash receipt slips, credit card slips, and tax invoices
- Employment/Industrial Accident Insurance Subscription Statement
- (Only applicable to employment/industrial accident insurance subscribers, not health insurance employee subscribers)
